A
popular standard for high speed communications
between computer peripherals is IEEE-1394,
sometimes called firewire. This standard
specifies speeds up to 393Mbps which
lends itself to products like digital
cameras and scanners. Cable assemblies
used to connect this equipment are built
with premium grade cabling encompassing
two 28 AWG shielded twisted pairs and
two 22 AWG power lines. All wires are
stranded and the cable utilizes an overall
copper braid and PVC jacket. The IEEE-1394
Type 1 connector utilizes six gold plated
contacts: three on each side of the
plug. Type 2 connectors utilize 4 pins
for mating with cameras and peripherals.
All lengths measured in meters.
